Lincoln man gets seven years for downloading 19,000 child pornography files

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — A Lincoln man will spend seven years in prison for downloading child pornography.
Michael Dale Bouwens, 69, was sentenced Tuesday in federal court for receipt of child pornography, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
In May 2021, law enforcement received a tip about suspected child porn and traced the IP address to Bouwens’ home.
His home was searched, and he admitted to searching for child porn online.
A forensic review of his electronic devices found more than 19,000 files of child porn, the U.S. Attorney’s Office said.
U.S. Senior District Judge John M. Gerrard also sentenced Bouwens to 10 years of post-prison supervised release.
Bouwens also must register as a sex offender when he is released.
There is no parole in the federal system.
