LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — A 24-year-old Lincoln man was sentenced in federal court Monday for a gun charge.

And his prison term was lengthened because he absconded while awaiting trial, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.

U.S. District Judge John M. Gerrard sentenced Davonte Brown to two years in prison for using illegal drugs while possessing a firearm. That crime typically carries an 18-month sentence.

In 2020, Brown posted a video of himself with a KelTec rifle on Snapchat. His fingerprints were also found on the gun, authorities said.

He was a marijuana user at the time, the U.S. Attorney’s Office said, citing encounters with law enforcement and social media posts.

Brown was indicted in June 2020 but was released while his case was pending.

He was supposed to stay in contact with the U.S. Probation Office, but he did not.

A warrant was issued for his arrest, and he was found in January of this year.

Brown pleaded guilty in June.

After prison, he will serve a two-year term of supervised release. There is no parole in the federal system.
