Lincoln man hosts annual winter clothing drive for Pine Ridge Reservation
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Bill Hawkins is asking the Lincoln community to donate to his annual winter clothing drive for the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation.
Bill Hawkins, also known as “Farmer Bill,” has collected clothes for those on the reservation for years.
Hawkins said he “can’t begin to describe the need up there.”
Pine Ridge is located in South Dakota and northern Nebraska, with 97% of its residents living below the poverty line.
Hawkins is collecting socks, coats, gloves and other winter essentials for the reservation.
He said efforts like this are a “drop in the bucket, but it will help.”
Donations will be collected until Nov. 12 at the following locations:
- The Indian Center – 1100 Military Road
- Goldenrod Bakery & Grocery – 3947 S. 48th St.
- Tamayta Food Market – 4025 S. 48th St.
- Open Harvest – 1618 South St.
- Meadowlark Coffee & Espresso – 1624 South St.
- The Mill at Telegraph – 330 S 21st St.
- The Hub Cafe – 250 N 21st St. #3
