Lincoln man jumps into action after crash; ‘I tried to hold everywhere that was bleeding’

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – If you look closely at the surveillance video Channel 8 obtained, you’ll see a black sedan driving south on 11th Street between F and G Streets.

That car will then try to make a U-turn, and that’s when things turn deadly. A motorcycle collides with the car, sending a 41-year-old Panama, Nebraska, man flying off of his bike.

If you keep watching, you’ll see a man exiting a silver vehicle right in front of the crash scene. That man is 19-year-old Tre’Sean White of Lincoln, who jumped into action on his birthday to try to save the biker’s life.

“I took off my only shirt, I just took off my shirt, man, and I took it off, put it on him, I was holding him,” White said. “I tried to hold everywhere that was bleeding. He was bleeding out of his mouth, his nose, both sides of his head.”

He called 911 and held the man until the ambulance arrived minutes later.

But he said what he witnessed will stick with him for life. The image of the victim flipping through the air and smacking his head in a nearby pothole in the road.

“I had bad nightmares of him just flipping, and just the way he looked at me in my sleep, it was like he was like ‘help.’ ” White said. “That image, I can’t get that picture out of my head.”

He said seeing the crash concerns him for his family and friends, who drive 11th Street often.

White said he hopes and prays that everyone will be more vigilant and that nobody ever has to see a crash like this again.

“That man’s life changed for a lifetime now; that driver, changed for a lifetime now,” White said. “He didn’t intend for that to happen. That man riding that bike wasn’t driving thinking he was going to crash, so I just want everybody to be aware of their surroundings at all times and make sure they’re looking for anybody: kids, people, period. Cars, anything. Just pay attention.”

White started a GoFundMe for the biker and his family for when he learns who they are.

Police said the biker is still hospitalized in critical condition as of Monday evening. The investigation continues, but no citations have been given out at this time.
