Lincoln man lost over $2,000 in dating app fraud scheme, police say
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – A Lincoln man became friends with a stranger on a dating app — and lost over $2,000 because of it.
On Wednesday, the Lincoln Police Department said a 37-year-old man befriended a female on a dating app.
Shortly after, the man received “unsolicited” nude photos of the female, according to police.
A person claiming to work with Omaha Police called the man and told him the girl’s father would not press charges if he paid $2,400.
So, the victim wired the money to an online account, police said.
“We would again like to stress the importance of verifying the validity of any request for money transfer before completing the transaction,” police said in a press release.
