LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – A Lincoln man charged with manslaughter took a plea deal Thursday.

Angel Rodriguez Alvis, 23, is accused of punching and killing 55-year-old James Baylor in August.

He was found guilty of manslaughter, terroristic threats and abuse of a vulnerable adult.

In exchange for a guilty plea, a first-degree assault charge was downgraded to terroristic threats.

Prosecutors allege that Rodriguez Alvis punched Baylor in the face, causing him to fall and hit his head near 13th and P streets. Baylor died in the hospital days later.

Rodriguez Alvis was originally arrested on suspicion of first-degree assault, but prosecutors charged him with manslaughter after Baylor’s death.

Lancaster County District Court Judge Matthew Mellor scheduled Rodriguez Alvis’ sentencing for May 31.
