Lincoln man recovering after dog bite requires stitches

A Lincoln man was out for a walk on Tuesday morning when he was attacked.

A neighbors dog got out and went after him, biting into his arm, which needed stitches.

Animal control was able to track the dog down and gave the owner two citations.

Neighbors living in the area say this isn’t the first time the dogs have gotten out.

The victim was 67-year old Kerry Johnson.

He was out taking a stroll near 25th and P streets when suddenly he knew was in danger.

“All of a sudden, this dog started barking, and I looked over there, and one had got out and was headed toward me so I took off myself, best I could, but it got me,” said Johnson.

Johnson’s attacker was a pit bull owned by a woman on the block.

He says the dog bit into his arm and wouldn’t let go for about ten seconds.

He had to kick the dog to break free.

Johnson suffered two deep puncture wounds, requiring stitches.

His apartment manager, who does not want to be named, says this isn’t the first dog attack observed in the area.

“I do believe the dog is vicious. I watched it potentially attack a female and then now, actually attacking one of our residents. I am very concerned about the school children walking by, on a daily basis.”

The dog’s owner was tracked down by animal control, and two citations were given.

They were for the dog running around unsupervised without a leash, and for the dog biting a citizen.

The dog will also be quarantined for ten days before being returned to its owner.

Multiple residents living on the street say they consciously take an alternative route around the house in question due to fear of being attacked by the pit bulls that live there.

Johnson says this is the first violent incident he has been involved in, he still loves animals, but thinks this dog needs to be supervised at all times.

“This one just got away way too easily and was able to harm me without much trouble. It can’t be roaming around, it’s too vicious,” said Johnson.
