Lincoln man saved by bus driver after being dragged by moving car

What started as a normal Tuesday morning, waiting for his grandson’s school bus to show up, quickly turned south for George Robie.

“My leg was being twisted and strained as that car was pulling me back and I thought my gosh, not my hip again,” Robie said.

As he went to get out of his car, the upper part of his body fell to the ground and he legs were stuck.

“The car started rolling backwards dragging me along the pavement,” Robie said.

That’s when the bus driver, Eugene, jumped into action.

He reached in and put the car back in park, essentially saving George.

“He stepped into a dire situation and stopped it from becoming a real tragedy,” Robie said.

Miraculously, George escaped with only a stiff knee, a miracle his neighbor couldn’t believe as he ran out to help.

“They become a little more fragile and you think of the mechanism of being stuck in the car and being drug, it could have done a lot of damage,” Tyler Brandt said.

How has George been recovering? The only way he knows how, taking his grandson back to the bus stop the very next morning.

“I’ve seen him out there and they’re still going at it which is good,” Brandt said.

“Quarter to seven, my grandson and I were standing in front of the car and the bus pulled up. I went to the open door and I thanked Eugene and Deb,” Robie said.
