Lincoln man sent to prison for selling heroin cut with fentanyl

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – A Lincoln man will spend 15 years in federal prison for selling heroin laced with fentanyl.
Austin Barrett, 29, was sentenced Thursday for distribution of fentanyl.
U.S. District Judge John M. Gerrard also ordered him to spend five years on supervised release after prison.
On April 1, 2021, Barrett came to a man’s home and sold him heroin, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
Sixteen minutes later, the man stopped breathing, authorities said.
Lincoln Fire & Rescue personnel gave him Narcan, which revived him.
Police found a used syringe, a bag containing heroin and a spoon with heroin residue at the scene.
The bag and spoon tested positive for fentanyl, the U.S. Attorney’s Office said.
