LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — A man was sentenced Wednesday for setting a fire in his Lincoln apartment.

Raymond Williams, 54, got four to six years in prison for attempted first-degree arson.

Judge Ryan Post gave him a credit for almost a year already spent behind bars. That means Williams could be eligible for parole in a little more than one year.

Last April, court documents say Williams started a fire inside his apartment near 10th and Lake streets after receiving an eviction notice.

Police said he poured gas on a bed, then lit a piece of paper on fire and threw it on the bed.

The fire “erupted like an explosion,” an arrest affidavit says, and Williams left the apartment.

The blaze caused about $25,000 in damage.

Williams was initially facing first-degree arson, but that charge was reduced under a plea deal.
