Lincoln man who pretended to be a high schooler convicted of sexual assault

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — A man who posed as a student at two Lincoln high schools pleaded no contest Thursday.

Zachary Scheich, 27, was found guilty of two counts of first-degree sexual assault and three other felonies.

Last year, Scheich enrolled at Lincoln Northwest and Lincoln Southeast under the pseudonym Zak Hess.

Police said he provided fraudulent documents, including a birth certificate and immunization records.

Once in the schools, he messaged female students and discussed sexual activity with them, according to court documents.

Scheich asked one of the girls for “pornographic material,” an arrest affidavit says.

At one point he faced nine felony charges, but some were dismissed and reduced under a plea deal.

Police said a woman who is four years younger than Scheich, Angela Navarro, pretended to be his mother when he enrolled.

She has pleaded not guilty to criminal impersonation and is due back in court on Sept. 12.

Scheich will be sentenced Sept. 11.
