Lincoln man will compete in History Channel reality TV show

A History Channel reality TV show called Forged in Fire will feature a Lincoln man in its newest episode this coming Wednesday.
It will feature Garrett Elting, a former marine turned forgeman.
Elting served two tours in Afghanistan.
When he came back home he says he needed something to occupy his hands.
So he enlisted the help of a close family member.
“I got home and I asked my dad, I said ‘hey, do you want to try making some knives with me?’ And he was like, ‘yeah, let’s do it.'”
Together, the Eltings started Steel Pig Forge back in 2014.
It started out as a hobby, until people asked if the knives were for sale.
“It started out as something fun to do that me and dad can get in the shop and get our hands dirty and come out with something tangible when we were done, so that was something that was fantastic. And as we progressed and got better, people were like, ‘hey we want to buy these’, and we realized there may be a market here in Lincoln,” said Elting.
Elting says he’s been a fan of the history channel show Forged in Fire since it started in 2015.
When he was asked to be a contestant in a military themed episode, he says he couldn’t refuse.
“Each episode starts with four individuals and you get a mystery steel that you have to turn into a blade. Our episode, we made a Ka-Bar, because it was a marine corps episode, and that’s synonymous with the marines,” said Elting.
Elting says each of his custom made knives take upwards of 30 to 40 hours to craft.
Each one is completely unique and one of a kind.
“I’m really excited for everybody to see the episode, it was a really great time just filming the episode in general, and it sucked, it was filmed in January and I couldn’t talk about it until a week ago,” said Elting.
Elting is competing to win a cash prize and earn the title of the Forged in Fire Champion.
He hopes the people of Nebraska will tune in this Wednesday at 8 o clock to support him.
