Lincoln man will stand trial in abuse of 2-month-old baby

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — A Lincoln man has been sent to district court on a charge that he abused a baby.
On Monday, a judge found probable cause to try 35-year-old Robert Herbert in the case.
In March, a 2-month-old baby was taken to the children’s hospital in Omaha.
Police said the girl choked and turned blue after Herbert forced water up her nose to clear her congestion.

Doctors reported that the baby also had a skull fracture, seven broken ribs and several bruises.
The skull fracture was caused by blunt force trauma, according to court documents.
An arrest affidavit alleges that while trying to help the baby defecate, Herbert squeezed her arms and legs together so hard “his arms were shaking.”
He also hit the girl in the head with a car seat “out of frustration,” court documents say.
Herbert is charged with intentional child abuse resulting in injury.
His arraignment in Lancaster County District Court is set for Sept. 25.
