Lincoln mayor announces investments in rural infrastructure, tourism industry

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – New uses for money from the American Rescue Plan Act were announced by Mayor Leirion Gaylor Baird on Tuesday.

These updates include new investments in rural infrastructure in Lancaster County and Lincoln’s tourism industry.

“The American Rescue Plan has been instrumental in helping us meet the immediate, critical needs of our community and lift up our neighbors through direct relief funding,” Gaylor Baird said.  “At the same time, this historic legislation invests in our future, providing us with funding to accelerate our economic recovery and growth.”

The update will include investments into culvert replacements, upgrades to rural fire district radio systems and grants for local tourist attractions.

The Lincoln Airport is also getting assistance to add additional airline services that officials hope will bring more tourism to the state.

“These adjustments will provide significant improvements in the health and safety of our expanding community and provide continued support to our tourism and business industry,” Lancaster County Commissioner Deb Schorr said.
