LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Mayor Leirion Gaylor Baird encouraged the public Tuesday to attend and participate a virtual public meeting on the DRAFT 2050 Lincoln-Lancaster County Comprehensive Plan and Long Range Transportation Plan.

The event will be held on October 6, 2021 and can be found at lincoln.ne.gov/planforward2050.

The Comprehensive Plan guides the city on areas of land use, economic development, housing, transportation, health, and sustainability for the next 30 years.

The Long Range Transportation Plan details a financial plan for the city on what can be afforded for transportation needs.

Planning Director David Cary predicts Lincoln to add around 107,000 people with an additional 48,000 households needed by 2050 based on past and current population and housing trends.

“The DRAFT Comprehensive Plan discusses how Lincoln can accommodate our anticipated growth over the next 30 years, with considerations for residential, commercial and industrial uses,” Cary said.

Comments on DRAFT 2050 are also being heard at upcoming in-person public meetings:

  • Jayne Snyder Trails Center, 228 N 21st St, Tuesday September 28, 3 to 7 p.m.
  • Spring Creek Prairie Audubon Center, 11700 SW 100th St, Thursday, September 30, 5 to 7 p.m.
  • Southeast Community College, 8800 O St, gymnasium, Tuesday, October 5, 5 to 7 p.m.

The final drafts for both plans are planned to be sent for approval in late 2021.
