Lincoln Mayoral Candidate Preview: Cyndi Lamm

Cyndi Lamm is a Republican candidate running for Lincoln mayor.

She currently holds a seat on the Lincoln City Council, which she has had for the past 4 years. Lamm says if she was elected, Lincoln could be seeing a change in city hall.

“We need to open checkbook to make it available for the people of Lincoln taxpayers can follow their dollars ins, their dollars out, I’ve also learned that we need to reestablish priorities that actually serve the needs over the wants of the citizens of Lincoln,” Lamm said.

Cyndi Lamm is aiming to tackle the main issue of improving the city of Lincoln’s infrastructure and she says she has a plan to fix the roads, and it can be paid for.

“For the roads dollars we set dollars from the state and I’ll continue to develop a relationship with the state for the fuel tax money that comes our way for the highway allocation funds for streets as well as the build Nebraska act and other funds available,” Lamm said.

After the quarter-cent sales tax passing in the Lincoln primary election, Cyndi Lamm looks to counteract the increase in city taxes with a plan to reduce the wheel tax by a third.

“I agree that’s a great concept and that will probably happen and so I don’t believe that we need to punish our citizens. In fact, it’s an opportunity for us to reward our taxpayers by giving them a reduction in a wheel tax that was supposed to be temporary, to begin with,” Lamm said.

With a lot of new businesses being built throughout the capital city, businesses are assisted by the city through a process of tax increment financing, also known as TIF, and with some businesses still folding, people are asking it paying off in the long run.

“I know that some people believe that we have overused it or are abusing it. I think it’s providing a great deal for the citizens of Lincoln. I don’t know if people realize the TIF money more than those property taxes are invested entirely for the benefit of the city for the period of time. The issue may more be about how the TIF dollars are used in benefit in the city and I think that’s worth reexamining,” Lamm said.
