Lincoln middle school teacher killed in southeast Nebraska crash

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – A middle school teacher was killed Sunday in a rollover crash near Sterling, which is southeast of Lincoln, authorities say.

William Hall, 28, was killed in the one-vehicle crash.

It was reported around 1:23 a.m. at the intersection of 609 Avenue and 732nd Road, according to Johnson County Attorney Richard Smith.

The driver, 43-year-old Marshall Behrens, was driving west when he lost control, slid down an embankment and rolled over into a creek bed, Smith said.

When first responders arrived, they attempted life-saving measures on Hall, a teacher at Goodrich Middle School in Lincoln.

He was taken to the Johnson County Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, according to Smith.

A woman was taken to Bryan Health Center in Lincoln to be treated for her injuries and remains in the hospital.

A fourth passenger was treated at the Johnson County Hospital and released.

Smith said the crash is being investigated by the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office and the Nebraska State Patrol.  Alcohol is thought to be a factor.

Goodrich Principal Kelly Schrad sent an email to families notifying them of the news.

Hall spent seven years at the school, working as a paraeducator and then as a student-teacher.

He was going to be a sixth-grade resource teacher at Goodrich this year, LPS spokeswoman Mindy Burbach said.
