Lincoln mommy blogger suggests fun and affordable family activities for winter break

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – The holidays are fast approaching and along with it comes time off from school for students.
Lincoln Public Schools is closing its classroom doors for winter break from Dec. 20 through Jan. 4th, giving kids a lot more time on their hands.
Emily Korte started her TikTok, @mrsemilykorte, three years ago as a creative outlet, sharing how mom life is going.
She now has a community of over 100,000 followers thanks to her videos about places she takes her kids.
“I just think of places that I would want to see myself, to get ideas,” said Korte. “I’m like, oh, other moms would absolutely love this. I need to film it because I know other people would love to take their kids here.”
For the holiday season so far, she has gone to Zoolightful in Omaha, Zoolights at the Lincoln Children’s Zoo and ChristmasLand in Valley.
With countless recommendations handy, she has a variety of options for any preference.
For families who are looking for strictly indoor locations for the Winter, she says, “There’s a lot of places in Lincoln that have indoor play areas like Chick-fil-A.”
“We love to bring them to the Lincoln children’s museum,” Korte said. “There are so many activities for kids of all ages, so that’s amazing.”
Additional options would be the indoor aquarium at Scheels and its Ferris wheel.
As for a completely free option, Korte says her favorite place is the libraries in Lincoln.
“They have stations set up, where there’s different things to do like magnet tiles, coloring, puzzles. There’s just a lot of activities for free at the library,” she said.
With the anticipated warmer weather expected for the week of Christmas, Korte also has an outdoor option.
“Pioneer’s Park has the nature center, and that’s a great way to expend their energy,” Korte said.
Her final tip is to rest, adding that she makes sure to fit in some time to exercise while her kids get daycare at the YMCA.
