Lincoln mother found guilty in death of 22-month-old child

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – A Lincoln woman was convicted Thursday in the death of her 22-month-old child.
Brittany Cook was found guilty of intentional child abuse resulting in death, according to court records. The charge carries a minimum prison sentence of 20 years.
On March 12, 2023, a 22-month-old boy was taken to a Lincoln hospital with injuries that were consistent with abuse.
Rudy Requejo Jr. suffered a brain bleed, a black eye, a swollen ankle and bruising, according to court documents.

He was transferred to the children’s hospital in Omaha, where he died five days later.
A Lancaster County judge set Cook’s sentencing for Nov. 21.
Cook’s boyfriend at the time, Joshua Tackett, was also charged in the death. He was found guilty on July 30.
Tackett has a hearing scheduled for Oct. 16 to determine whether his sentence should be enhanced under the state’s habitual criminal law.
His sentencing is set for Oct. 29.
