Lincoln nonprofit in urgent need of furniture donations for refugees
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — A Lincoln nonprofit is in urgent need of donations to help refugee families get settled.
Catholic Social Services of Southern Nebraska said requests for furniture are nearly double the usual demand.
“The refugee numbers have been steadily increasing over the past few years,” Executive Director Katie Patrick said. “Since October, which was the start of the federal fiscal year, we have received more than 160 refugees.”
Patrick also said the nonprofit is seeing a slight decrease in donations.
Donors play a big part in helping refugees settle in Lincoln.
Michelle Pryor said her parents recently passed. Her family decided to donate their furniture.
She said they would be pleased to know their stuff is helping others.
“That’s the kind of people they were,” she said. “They liked to help others.”
Pryor is encouraging others to donate, too.
“It just makes you feel good to know that you’re helping somebody else that needs some help,” she said.
Patrick said the nonprofit needs dining room furniture, kitchen tables and chairs, sofas, lamps and beds.
Drop-offs of donated furniture must be approved first.
More details on what items are needed the most and how to schedule a drop-off are available on the Catholic Social Services webpage.
