Lincoln North Star goes into “Secure” due to aggravated assault investigation, police say

Shooting arrest

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — The Lincoln Police Department is investigating an aggravated assault.

According to LPD, the assault was connected to Lincoln North Star High School’s Standard Response Protocol of “Secure” during lunch time on Wednesday.

In a message to North Star families, Principal Megan Kroll said all students, faculty and staff were brought inside the building while LPD handled the situation in the area.

“Secure means there is something happening outside of the school,” Kroll said. “Everyone was brought inside the building and entrances were locked and monitored. Teaching and learning, along with movement inside the building, happened as normal.”

Kroll said the school was able to lift the Secure this afternoon, and they will continue to work with police to “ensure a safe learning environment.”

A spokeswoman with LPD called the aggravated assault a “complex incident.”

LPD said the investigation is ongoing and more information will be released at 11 a.m. Thursday.
