Lincoln Northeast football: ‘We’ll build to success’
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Accountability, consistency and trust are the main pillars driving the culture of the Lincoln Northeast Rockets this football season.
Head coach Javonta Boyd is entering his first year at the helm of the program and he is determined to help turn things around for a team that struggled last season with a 2-7 record.
Boyd says a winning program happens by putting in the work on the small things overtime.
“We’ll build to success, you’re not just gonna be successful just because you walk on the field in August,” Boyd said. “You gotta have the trust for your teammates before you can even think about winning.”
Change has been a common thing within the Rockets program and Boyd says some of that change will come in implementing a new offense among other strategies.
The team has already bought into the discipline and accountability that Boyd has stressed for his program.
Junior wide receiver and outside linebacker Trevor Vocasek says many of the guys worked out together all summer whether they were in the weight room or just on the field throwing around the ball.
“It’s just the way that we hustle around the field,” Vocasek said. “We need to work our offense a little bit faster than last year.”
Diversity, union and work ethic are three traits that Northeast seniors and twin brothers Brice and Ivan Eloume say set this team apart.
“Football is a team sport. I can’t do nothing by myself so I knew that I had to get everybody involved,” Brice said. “Winning games, going out there to compete, dominate if possible and that’s just the mindset I’m trying to have this season.”
Ivan shared a lot of the same sentiment as his twin brother.
“We’re trying to go high. We need higher than that,” Ivan said. “We need minimum five games this year and that’s what we’re shooting for and hopefully playoffs too.”
