Lincoln Northeast High School teacher charged with four counts of sexual abuse

Daniel Holmberg, 62, was seen in court for the first time on Wednesday and was charged with two counts of second-degree sexual abuse and two counts of third-degree sexual abuse.
His bond was set at 10% of $200,000, and his next hearing is scheduled for Jan. 22.
Just before 3 p.m. on Dec. 2, officers with the Lincoln Police Department were sent to Northeast High School on the report of sexual abuse by a school employee.

According to LPD, multiple students reported inappropriate touching by Holmberg, the English Learner teacher.
Lincoln Public Schools placed him on leave once law enforcement became involved.
Over the last two weeks, LPD’s Special Victims Unit has forensically interviewed multiple female teenage victims, all of whom speak different primary languages other than English.
During the investigation, probable cause was developed to arrest Holmberg, LPD said.
He was arrested at his home around 1 p.m. on Tuesday and taken to the Lancaster County Jail.
LPS Superintendent Dr. John Skretta released a statement on Wednesday following the arrest.
“We understand our community has questions. This is an ongoing investigation and we owe it to everyone that we ensure a fair and thorough process – and that can take time. Because this is still being investigated, we are unable to provide further details or comments at this time.
Our job as educators is to teach, nurture and protect students. When there is even the thought that a trusted individual inside our system has potentially harmed a student – it hurts and makes us angry.
We are focusing our efforts in supporting the students impacted, and providing resources for students and families. We ask that everyone please honor and respect the privacy of Northeast students and staff and let the Lincoln Police and courts do their important work.”
