Lincoln Northwest High School prepares for inaugural football season

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) –Lincoln Northwest football is entering its first season as a program and despite having no seniors at the school, the Falcons plan to field a varsity team this season in Class B.

Brian Lauck, the former Lincoln North Star defensive coordinator, is the team’s first-ever head coach

He says that despite the amount of work already put in to make this season happen, there is still plenty of work to be done to build the foundation.

“It’s taken months to get to this point, it’s going to take another year or two before we actually start seeing probably those results that we like, Lauck said. “We have to win those small battles this year and try to find those successes that we can to keep the kids hungry, keep the kids interested, keep the kids wanting to come out and interest others to come and be a part of this program as well next year.”

Despite never having taken a snap at quarterback, junior Dylan Kotik will play in the position this season.

The former Lincoln Southwest safety says making the transition has taken some getting used to, but it’s just a part of building a program from scratch.

“With little numbers, a lot of people have had to move positions like me and I know that some people have had to move to like line cause we’ve been kind of short there and I mean everyone is doing their part and we’re all adapting into the positions we’re being put into,” Kotik said.
