Lincoln officers stun man after he tried to steal catalytic converter, police say

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – A man was arrested Tuesday after officers found him at a car dealership cutting off a catalytic converter, Lincoln Police say.

Around 6 a.m., officers were sent to Le Auto Center near 22nd and Fairfield Streets on a report of a man cutting off a catalytic converter.

When officers arrived, they found 32-year-old Sergey Stoyan dressed in all black under a Toyota Prius, police say.

Stoyan then grabbed his backpack and ran away.

Officers shocked Stoyan with a Taser after they saw him digging around his waistband area, police say.

Drug-related items and several cutting tools were found.  The Prius had around $300 worth of damage, according to police.

Stoyan was arrested on suspicion of possession of a controlled substance, possession of burglar tools, criminal mischief, obstructing a police officer and resisting arrest.
