Lincoln officials announce new program supporting newborns and parents
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – The Lincoln-Lancaster County Health Department is implementing a new program to support newborns and their parents.
Mayor Leirion Gaylor Baird and Health Director Pat Lopez announced Family Connects at a press conference Thursday.
It’s a free service that sends nurses to the homes of new parents to lend a helping hand and answer any questions, city officials said Thursday.
Parents who sign up for the program can expect to have a nurse visit three weeks after the birth of their child.
Nurses will provide breastfeeding support, health assessments and connections to resources in Lancaster County.
“This effort is about giving every single one of our families the protection, knowledge, resources and strong start they deserve during a changing time,” said Sean Flowerday, a Lancaster County commissioner.
Anyone living in Lancaster County is eligible to sign up for the service. You can schedule a visit on the city’s website.
