LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Lincoln Parks and Recreation hosted its 27th annual Bricks of Honor Ceremony on Saturday morning.

The service was held at Veterans Memorial Garden in Antelope Park.

Lincoln Parks and Recreation works with families throughout the year to honor the lives of veterans by dedicating a brick in their name to be placed in the garden.

74 new bricks were added to the garden this year, with the garden accumulating over 5,000 bricks in total since its creation in 1991.

Director of Parks and Recreation Maggie Stuckey-Ross said the event is a great way to bring veteran families together and celebrate their legacies.

“It’s a really great opportunity for us to connect with these families and hear more about their stories, all the photos are happening, and the flags are up, so it’s really a day of celebration and remembrance”, said Stuckey-Ross.

Lincoln Parks and Recreation will continue to honor the lives of veterans this summer, starting with a renovation of the garden to replace many of the 32-year-old brick holders.

The garden will re-open on Veterans Day this coming November.
