Businesses owners upset about green space proposal

On Wednesday, the Lincoln Lancaster County Planning Commission voted on an issue that would require parking lots in Lincoln to have some sort of green space.

Which for many businesses throughout the Capital City could cause major headaches, as it would take away much-needed parking space for many businesses.

But according to the Lincoln City Planning Commission, disagrees, they believe it won’t take away much space from businesses and overall it brings some basic aesthetic value, while providing additional landscaping along streets.

“We’ve seen that concern but we’ve also done our own analysis and believe that in most cases– in the overwhelming number of cases that on a property there is in fact room for all of these things to co-exist,” Collin Christopher spokesmen with the Planning Department said.

While there has been a lot of changes since the original proposal, there are still a lot of worries from small businesses around Lincoln.

“Long-term effects are hard to project but it will have a significant detrimental effect in older smaller sites,” Mark Hunzeker who is representing many Lincoln businesses said.
