Lincoln Police announce results of Memorial Day weekend traffic enforcement

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — Over Memorial Day weekend, Lincoln Police officers stepped up traffic enforcement along O Street.

Officers issued 73 tickets and 77 warnings for violations including speeding, unnecessary noise, reckless driving and racing.

Seven vehicles were also towed from Friday through Monday under the city’s new nuisance vehicle ordinance.

Two DUI arrests were made, including the driver involved in the life-threatening crash Saturday night.

“Traffic safety is a community effort,” LPD spokeswoman Erika Thomas said. “Every person on the road must be responsible for their own actions. We all have free will, so please make choices that keep you and others safe.”

LPD partnered with the Nebraska State Patrol, which provided help on the ground and in the air.

With the start of summer, LPD is urging drivers to be cautious of people on bikes and scooters and of those crossing streets.
