Lincoln Police Department sees spike in vehicle thefts over the weekend

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – The Lincoln Police Department reported an increase in vehicle thefts over the weekend.

LPD spokeswoman Erika Thomas said Monday that at least 18 cars were stolen during that time frame.

At least nine car theft attempts were also reported.

Thomas said most of the thefts were reported in southeast Lincoln.

Hyundai and Kia vehicles were targeted in the rash of thefts.

As a reminder, Thomas said people should not leave their keys inside their vehicles.

And with colder weather approaching, Lincolnites should also not leave their cars running unlocked while they are warming up.

People are asked to report any suspicious activity to police at 402-441-6000.
