Lincoln Police Department warns of porch pirates during holiday season

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – The Lincoln Police Department asked residents to be wary of porch pirates stealing holiday gifts.

On Friday, police said 17% of all package thefts from 2019 to 2022 in Lincoln happened in December.  Another 20% of thefts happened on Thursdays.

Police ask residents to be “vigilant” about tracking orders and deliveries to thwart porch pirates.

Shoppers can also consider having packages delivered to a secure locker or location through Amazon, UPS and FedEx.

Homeowners can purchase porch lock boxes, which allow for a delivery person to place items inside a secure location.

Police said asking a trusted neighbor to pick up your package is another way to avoid losing a delivery.
