Friday morning fatal crash victim identified as Lincoln High School student

UPDATE: Lincoln High School student identified as fatal crash crash victim.

Lincoln Police and Lincoln High School Principal Mark Larson sent out an email to parents Friday afternoon that identified the driver as a 9th grade student, Kaydance Potter.

The vehicle Potter was driving was reported stolen on April 15 from a driveway of a home in southeast Lincoln.

The school said it would have crisis response team available until 4 p.m. Friday and again on Monday in the school’s counseling center.

The high school and Lincoln Police have confirmed this story development.

Still no word on how Potter came into possession of the stolen vehicle.

Lincoln Police are investigating a single vehicle car crash that left a woman dead near 56th and Superior.

Police have closed Superior Street from 48th to 56th in both directions. It will likely remain closed for several hours as investigators examine the scene.

Police were dispatched to the area around 4:11 a.m. on reports of an accident. Upon arrival, they discovered the body of a woman, they pronounced her dead on scene.

Police said a preliminary investigation indicates the driver was traveling on Superior when the driver lost control and hit a pole. 

Police said speed may have been a factor in the crash based on what witnesses told officers.

Lincoln Police said they haven’t been able to identify the victim yet. 

The driver was in a stolen Honda Civic. The 2015 car was stolen from a home near 27th and Old Cheney last Monday.
