Lincoln Police issues more than 1,000 citations, warnings during winter traffic safety project

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — The Lincoln Police Department on Tuesday released the results of its Winter Traffic Safety Project, dishing out more than 1,000 warnings and citations.
The project was conducted between Dec. 4, 2025, and March 31, 2026.
According to LPD, the project focused on increasing traffic enforcement and safety during high-risk collision periods.
During the project, officers who are highly proactive in traffic enforcement worked overtime, focusing on speeding, driving too fast for conditions, following too closely and failure to yield to right-of-way offenses.
LPD said these offenses during bad weather typically lead to crashes.
Below are the results from the overtime enforcement efforts during the project:
- Traffic stops: 740
- Citations: 865
- Warnings: 180
Individual warnings and citations are as follows:
- Speeding citations: 212
- Warnings: 16
- Traffic signal citations: 10
- Warnings: 3
- Stop sign citations: 10
- Warnings: 1
- No insurance citations: 73
- Warnings: 14
- No registration citations: 389
- Warnings: 60
- No seatbelt citations: 65
- Child seatbelt citations: 3
- Seatbelt warnings: 13
- Other traffic citations: 68
- Other traffic warnings: 28
- Suspended/revoked citations: 28
- Other criminal arrests: 4
- Warrant arrests:7
- Open alcohol container citations: 2
- Driving under the influence: 1
A grant from the Nebraska Department of Transportation Highway Safety Office funded the enforcement campaign.
