Officer Tony Howe

Funeral arrangements have been made for Officer Tony Howe.

Services for Officer Howe will be held at 10 a.m., Monday, January 30, 2012 at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in York.  Burial will follow in York's Greenwood Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 1-9 p.m., Sunday at Metz Mortuary with the family greeting friends from 2-4 p.m. that day. Memorials may be directed to the family for educational funds for Tony's sons.

Chief Peschong says Officer Howe was on his way to work his 9 p.m. shift from his home in York.  Peschong says Howe was driving on I-80 and was traveling under the speed limit when his left front tire fell off the road, pulling the car into the median.  Howe's car hit a crossover and went airborne, flipping numerous times.  Peschong says Howe was ejected from the car.  The York County Sheriff's office is investigating the accident.

Thursday morning, Chief Peschong spoke about Officer Howe as a man who could take on any job and was valued by all who worked with him.

“I guess the lesson to be learned here is that it can happen anytime, any place and real quick. You never can be too careful and you know, there are a lot of unanswered questions. What really did happen? Why did this, why did it happen? Why did it happen to Tony.”

Officer Howe was an 8 year veteran of the Lincoln Police Department and was assigned as an investigator with Criminal Investigations Unit. During his career, Tony worked on Northwest, Center and Southwest Teams. He also served as a member of Field Force, a member of Honor Guard and guided many new officers as a Field Training Officer.

Officer Howe began his law enforcement career with the York Police Department in 1996. He later worked 6 years with the York County Sheriff's Office. Tony is survived by his wife, Stephanie, and three children. Peschong says Officer Howe will be remembered as an excellent officer, dedicated family man, and good friend to all.
