Lincoln Police report 14 cases of EBT fraud since January 1

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — Since the start of the new year, the Lincoln Police Department said it has taken 14 reports of fraud involving Electronic Benefit Transfer cards.
According to LPD, the total loss is estimated at more than $8,600, averaging more than $615 per case.
A spokesperson with the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services said those cases skyrocketed on Monday after dozens of new victims came forward.
DHHS said two card skimmers were found at local stores, and investigators are searching for more.
Victims have been told to contact DHHS to dispute the charges and request refunds.
“We’re also working with our EBT vendor, Fidelity Information Services, to shut down out-of-state locations where these fraudulent transactions are occurring,” said Shannon Grotrian, Director of the Office of Economic Assistance.
LPD is asking EBT card users to review their transaction history for any signs of fraud and to report it immediately.
Anyone with information that could help officers identify suspects or locations of interest is asked to call LPD at 402-441-6000.
