Lincoln Police report spate of car thefts, attempted thefts in Capitol Beach
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – The Lincoln Police Department investigated several attempted car thefts — and two successful thefts — on Wednesday in the Capitol Beach area.
All six involved a Kia or a Hyundai.
There was more than $3,000 worth of damage dealt to the vehicles.
A 2013 Hyundai Elantra was reported stolen near Lamont and Sailside drives, police said. It still hasn’t been found.
While officers were investigating in the area, they found a 2021 Kia Rio at Northwest Eighth and West S streets that had some damage to its ignition area.
The owner said the car was stolen from a home near North Coddington Avenue and West S streets.
An officer found yet another stolen vehicle just a block away from the Kia Rio.
The windows were down, and there was obvious damage to the ignition area.
After contacting the owner, police determined that the car had been stolen in a different part of town, near 48th and Holdrege streets.
A leasing manager from a Capitol Beach apartment complex who wanted to remain anonymous said a car was stolen from the complex’s lot.
She said car theft was a problem in the area back in February and is disappointed it’s happening again this summer with no resolution.
Police encourage neighbors to call them if they have any information or video that would help the investigation.
