Lincoln Police see 111% increase in garage burglaries in 2022

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Lincoln Police have seen a recent increase in open or unlocked garage burglaries in 2022.

This year, police have seen a 111% increase in garage burglaries compared to the 5-year-average.

Just in May, there was a 33% increase in garage burglaries compared to January through April.

Police say the average loss from these burglaries is $4,338.

They want to remind residents to make sure and lock their garage doors before going to bed.

Police also say to not leave keys in vehicles, when they’re parked in the garage.
