Lincoln prepares for fireworks and fun at 2023’s Uncle Sam Jam

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — Summer has just begun, and the Fourth of July is right around the corner.
In light of that, the City of Lincoln is preparing for the annual Uncle Sam Jam at Oak Lake Park on July 3.
This year’s celebration begins at 4 p.m., when the park and vendors will open up.
The seven-piece funk-rock band Soul Dawg will perform from 6:15 to 9:30 p.m. The local band will play the energetic tunes of Earth, Wind, and Fire; Parliament; James Brown; and Stevie Wonder.
A flag-lowering ceremony begins at 8:30 p.m., followed by a fireworks display at 10 p.m.
Free parking is available in the unpaved south lot of Oak Lake Park. The unpaved lot north of the park will not be available for parking this year.
The city is also offering free parking at the Haymarket Park and Bowlin Stadium lots, the Nebraska School Activities Association lot, and the festival space north of Pinnacle Bank Arena.
At 9:45 p.m., Sun Valley Boulevard from O Street to Cornhusker Highway will be closed.
StarTran will also provide free bus service from 5 to 11 p.m. between Oak Lake Park and the following stops:
- Haymarket Garage, Ninth and Q streets
- Gold’s bus stop, 11th and O streets, across the street from the work site
- County-City Building complex – northeast corner of Ninth and H streets and southeast corner of Ninth and K streets.
The city also recommends that attendees bring a variety of things along with them, as well as leaving some things at home.
