Lincoln Public Schools cancels outdoor athletic events due to wildfire smoke

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Lincoln Public Schools announced that all outdoor athletic events will be canceled Wednesday due to air quality concerns.

In a press release, the district said smoke from the wildfires in Canada is impacting conditions outside.

A district spokeswoman also said recess was canceled on Wednesday.

Around 1:20 p.m., the air quality in Lincoln was fluctuating between red (unhealthy) and purple (very unhealthy), the district said.

LPS is working with schools outside of Lincoln to monitor their current conditions.

“We will continue to monitor conditions throughout the week and decisions will be made in a timely manner once we have up-to-date information,” the district said.
