Lincoln Public Schools postpones athletic events on Thursday due to heat wave

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Lincoln Public Schools is continuing to postpone outdoor sporting events this week due to blistering heat.
In a social media post, the district said games on Thursday would be postponed.
For the health & safety of student-participants, coaches, officials & spectators, LPS will continue to postpone & reschedule all hosted outdoor athletic contests for today, tomorrow & Thursday. LPS had already rescheduled outdoor athletic events for Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.
“The forecasted WBGT continues to verify that we cannot safely hold outdoor contests,” the district said in the post.

It is not yet known if Friday’s outdoor games, including football, will be delayed.
An excessive heat warning in Lincoln has been extended through Thursday night.
