Lincoln remembers firefighters who died on 9/11

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – City officials gathered at a Lincoln fire station on Wednesday morning for a 9/11 remembrance event.

The Lincoln-Lancaster County Honor Guard presented the colors, followed by the national anthem sung by Ellie Ramirez.

Mayor Leirion Gaylor Baird and Lincoln Fire & Rescue Chief Dave Engler gave remarks as well.

“The brave individuals we honor today charged ahead,” the mayor said, “risking their lives in the service of saving the lives of others.”

A massive American flag was hoisted up at the end of a fully extended firetruck ladder in a show of patriotism.

The event concluded with a moment of silence to remember those who lost their lives 23 years ago.
