Lincoln school trashed after being broken into
Police say "basically anything they could vandalize, they did"
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — Riley Elementary School was broken into on Saturday and heavily vandalized, according to Lincoln Police.
We’re told they were first notified about a broken window.
When officers arrived, they found the damage was much worse.
Police say whoever’s behind this smashed multiple windows, poured cleaning supplies everywhere, and “basically anything they could vandalize, they did.”
Even the fire extinguisher was sprayed throughout the building before the damage was done.
Right now the price of repairs is still being added up.
So far there are no suspects in this case.
An email was sent to parents earlier this morning:
Riley families,
We’ve been working with Lincoln Police to investigate a break-in and vandalism that occurred sometime on Saturday. Thankfully a parent noticed damage to one of our doors and contacted law enforcement. There was some damage inside the school, but our custodial team and custodial support from around the district worked over the weekend to get our building ready for students today.
We are thankful for the parent who noticed the damage and the work by Lincoln Police to investigate the incident. We are extremely grateful to our custodial team for their work in cleaning up the building over the weekend and getting it ready for students and staff.
If you have any information that would aid Lincoln Police in their investigation, please contact the non-emergency number at (402)441-6000, or anonymously to CrimeStoppers.
