Lincoln skating community begins planning for new skatepark in Haymarket District

LINCOLN, Neb, (KLKN) – The construction of the new South Haymarket Park in Lincoln will begin next fall, including a brand-new skatepark.
Phil Burcher, the president of Lincoln Skatepark Association, said this is “huge” for the skating community.
One of the features of the $15 million dollar park will be an outdoor skate park.

On Saturday, the Lincoln Skatepark Association welcomed the public to vote on proposed designs for the skatepark.
Designs were placed on tables for visitors to look at, and if they saw a design they liked, they could put a sticker on it.
While the association is still only in the design phase, this planning is essential.
“Getting the youth’s feedback and adult’s feedback, it should become an amazing park that will stand the test of time,” said Andrew Windle, a member of LSA.
With the park set to open in 2025, multiple skaters stopped by to place their votes.
Malcom Opuku, who is a skateboarder, said he is hoping for the inclusion of a snake run, so he will not have to travel to one as he usually does.
The votes from today will be used when planning final designs for the park.
