Lincoln Southeast cruises to season-opening shutout versus Grand Island

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — Thursday was the start of the high school football season for a couple of Lincoln schools, including Lincoln Southeast.

The Knights started their season with a 30-0 victory over Grand Island.

In the first quarter, after back-and-forth turnovers between the Knights and the Islanders, junior running back Kadin Logan scored a rushing touchdown from inside the 5-yard line to give Southeast its first score.

A couple possessions later, Southeast quarterback Gavin Semm found Caden Ward in the back of end zone to grow the lead to 14-0.

Early in the second quarter, the Knights had a trick up their sleeve.

Semm snapped the ball and passed it to wide receiver Mason Mehta, who then launched a deep pass to Nate Appleget, who broke a tackle from the defender and scored.

Lincoln Southeast kept Grand Island scoreless the rest of the way.

This marks the second straight year that Southeast opened its season with a win over Grand Island.

The Knights will face the Silver Hawks of Lincoln Southwest next Friday in Week 2.
