Lincoln Southeast football ‘determined’ to have a winning season
'We're trying to win a state championship' Lincoln Southeast
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Lincoln Southeast High School seniors Gunnar Gottula and Max Buttenback say their goals for the season are simple: they want to win a state championship this year.
“It’s southeast and we’re known to win and I think everybody here wants to win,” Buttenback said. “I just think our work ethic and our willingness to win and do whatever it takes is what sets us ahead.”
The Knights finished last season with a 5-5 record and this season the team returns a number of starters on both sides of the ball.
Gottula, a offensive and defensive lineman and a Nebraska football commit said the feel within his team is determination to get it done this season.
“We all have one common goal and that’s to take it week by week and try to go 1-0 each week,” Gottula said. “We know what we want to do and we’re poised and determined [to make it happen.”]
Gottula’s dad, Ryan Gottula is entering his 11th season as head coach of the Knights.
He says the team had a great mindset all summer but the key to them performing well is building more depth up front on both offense and defense.
“We’re not going in and re-teaching a lot of things so we have a smart group of guys, we knew that and they’re very determined to do well,” he said.
Southeast opens the first two weeks with big games, first against Elkhorn South and then Lincoln East – two games the Knights lost last year.
