Lincoln students help out with LPS Chromebooks in a big way

Before the start of each school year, Lincoln Public Schools has more than 6,000 Chromebooks to program and get ready for the thousands of students who use them every day.

In the past, LPS has outsourced the work, which costs around $50,000 a year.

But this year, a dozen students were hired to help out.

The students boxed and loaded the devices, and tried their hands at programming and doing software updates as well.

It’s a win-win situation, as students gained valuable experience and LPS saved around $30,000.

“So they are getting some real-life experience in a pretty big operation all phases of it and I think it’s kind of interesting for them because they use chrome books every day,” said Technology Services Coordinator Darin Raguse. “But now they are getting to see the behind the scenes how does all of that get from whenever it’s coming to each classroom and every kid having one.”

LPS plans to continue the program in future years.

Any student can sign up at First Job Lincoln.
