Lincoln teen hit in crosswalk on way to Goodrich Middle School
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — Jackson Admire, 14, was struck in a crosswalk Wednesday morning while riding his bike to school.
Jackson was hit around 7:45 a.m. while heading to Goodrich Middle School, less than a mile away at 14th and Superior Streets.
Jackson said the driver who hit him had a red light and didn’t help him after stopping.
“They didn’t get out of the car, they just kind of stopped,” Jackson said. “I yelled at them a little bit and just walked back the rest of the way to school.”
Jennifer Admire, Jackson’s mother, spoke about how she found out her son was hit while riding to school.
“I got the text from Jackson asking if I could come to pick up his bike from school ’cause he got hit by a car,” Admire said. “It’s just really distressing to hear as a parent and your kid’s on the way to school.”
Lincoln Public Schools said in a statement, “We are concerned any time there is a report of a child being struck by a vehicle while crossing a street in Lincoln. The safety of our children takes a community. We continue to encourage all drivers to follow traffic laws, limit distractions, and be on the lookout for children in school zones and neighborhoods.”
The Admire family has not said if they’ll be pressing charges if the driver comes forward, and the Lincoln Police Department said the case is actively being investigated.
