LTU treats Lincoln roads ahead of winter storm, ready to work around the clock

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — The City of Lincoln began preparing for snow on Friday by treating streets with brine.

The Lincoln Transportation and Utilities Department said it is expecting 4 to 6 inches of snow on Saturday and Sunday.

“Each storm can be its own animal,” said Tim Byrne, LTU’s maintenance operations and fleet services manager. “The conditions are highly variable.”

He said snowplow crews will work around the clock if necessary.

“Crews are ready for the snow and will prioritize plowing emergency, school and bus routes through the storm,” Byrne said. “We will continue to evaluate conditions throughout the storm to determine if parking bans and residential plowing will be needed.”

According to city officials, they began work Friday afternoon by pretreating emergency snow routes as well as school and bus routes.

You can track the snow removal progress online. If your street has already been plowed but you think it needs more attention, you can request more service on UPLNK.

The city also reminds residents to shovel sidewalks by 9 a.m. the day after the snowstorm.
