LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — The race for mayor of Lincoln is in full swing.

April 4 is the primary for the three candidates who want to lead the city.

City elections are nonpartisan. The top two candidates in the primary will advance to the May 2 general election, regardless of party.

State Sen. Suzanne Geist, a Republican, plans to unite the Lincoln community and work toward a greater future for the city, according to her website.

She says she wants to support law enforcement, firefighters, and first responders; promote economic growth to attract business investors; and responsibly manage city resources.

Fellow Republican candidate Stan Parker asks voters to join the movement “Stand For L.I.N.C.O.L.N.” That stands for leadership, integrity, Nebraska, collaboration, opportunity, law enforcement and neighbors.

Parker says in a video on his website that he felt compelled to run for mayor by the increase in crime and the “denial” of it by the current administration.

The current mayor, Democrat Leirion Gaylor Baird, says on her website that it has been “the honor of a lifetime” to serve the city of Lincoln the past four years.

She said she cares deeply about the community and wants to continue to make Lincoln the “best possible home for everyone.”
