Lincoln woman charged with assault on two officers in northwest Lincoln

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — A Lincoln woman was arrested early Sunday morning after police say she assaulted two officers in northwest Lincoln.
Just before 2 a.m., officers with the Lincoln Police Department were called to the Royal Grove near Northwest Fourth Street and Cornhusker Highway.
When officers arrived, several large crowds were seen causing disturbances and fights were happening between several people.
According to LPD, 30-year-old Akilah Akbar was seen interfering with an arrest of another person.
LPD said she was grabbing onto the person being detained and trying to pull him away from the officer.
The officer tried to push her away before police said Akbar punched the officer on the left side of his face and neck, causing pain and discomfort.
A second officer saw the assault and grabbed her to place her into custody.
While being arrested, Akbar also assaulted the second officer by grabbing his face and shoving her fingers inside of his mouth, causing pain and discomfort to his lips and gums.
According to LPD, Akbar then resisted officers’ efforts to place her into custody.
Officers searched the purse she was holding and found a loaded 9mm Glock 19 handgun with a round in the chamber.
LPD said Akbar never told officers she was carrying the gun.
It was also determined Akbar was under the influence while concealing the firearm in her purse.
Akbar was lodged in the Lancaster County Jail on suspicion of two counts of assault on a police officer and resisting arrest.
She was also cited for carrying a handgun under the influence and not telling the officers she was carrying.
